WHAT WE OFFER

Endodontics in Windsor

Root canals have a bit of a reputation problem, but they’re the best way to save a damaged tooth from needing to be extracted. This often-misunderstood procedure is actually very simple, and with modern treatments, it no longer deserves a reputation for being painful.

How does root canal treatment work?

Inside the roots of every one of your teeth there is an open area called the canal. Inside the canal is a bundle of blood vessels, nerves, and soft tissue called the pulp. Normally the pulp is protected by the rest of the tooth, but if the tooth gets broken and the canal is exposed to the outside, bacteria can infect the pulp. The resulting infection is very painful and can lead to the tooth being lost.

In root canal therapy, we simply remove the pulp from a damaged tooth. This is usually done through a tiny hole drilled in the tooth. Once the pulp is out, we sanitize the canal and seal the tooth. In most cases we restore the tooth with a dental crown after treatment.

Aren’t root canals painful?

Not really. Although they have a reputation of being painful, with modern anesthetic and techniques the procedure feels like getting a tooth filled.

Severe toothaches or pain beneath your gums can indicate an infection. Call our office to schedule an examination.
